Friday started out raining, so Jack and I went to Cathedral Café in Fayetteville and had a long breakfast. We hung out there until it stopped raining and then decided to head over to Beauty Mountain to climb. We had a pretty good day climbing, although the rock was a little wet.
After climbing, we packed it up and headed into town for dinner! We decided to mix it up and hit up the Mexican restaurant in town.
The outside doesn’t look like much but the inside was well done, and since they recently got their full liquor license they had much better drink offerings. The beer list was much improved!
I started our by ordering the St. Peters Cream Stout.
I tasted this beer expecting a thick creamy stout and I got a mouth full of vinegar!!! I looked this beer up on my go-to beer website beeradvocate.com and not one review even mentioned vinegar. I determined that I must have somehow gotten a bad beer! I mentioned it to the server and he took the rest of the bottle away, and they taste tested it with another bottle. He said that mine was definitely funky and that the other was normal. Kind of a bummer. So Jack and I decided to split a big bottle of Chimay Grand Reserve instead!
Delicious!! Considered a Belgian Strong Dark Ale, 9%. Poured a hazy reddish-brown. Fruits and spices, warm alcohol, yeasty. Great example of a trappist beer!
I ordered dessert because I saw bread pudding on the menu and it was deep fried! Crispy and crunchy on the outside and warm and gooey on the inside covered in caramel bourbon sauce. So good!
