You will laugh, but I actually had to come back to Johnstown to get my hair done. My hairdresser Mel, lives here and I have had too many bad experiences in the DC area (at really nice places!) to trust anyone else with my hair. Silly, I know.
Anyway, I love coming home because I get to hang out with my ladies! And I get to so to the Southside Saloon.
I started off the night with the N’Ice Chouffe, considered a strong dark ale at 10% abv by Brasserie d’Achouffe, of Achouffe, Belgium.
Incredibly delicious beer, dark candied sugars, molasses, brown sugar, orange peel, spicy and sweet. Sip slowly, the alcohol is well hidden.
Next, I ordered the Old No. 38 Stout by North Coast Brewing Co. of California, considered an Irish Dry Stout at 5.6% abv.
Roasted barley, heavy molasses plum flavor. I believe it could have felt creamier. A little thin on the tongue. Pretty good. Surprisingly carbonated.
And last but not least the Dead Reckoning Porter by Troegs brewing Company of Hershey, PA at 5.4% abv.
This was ok. Not a traditional porter. All the right flavors are there, roasted malts, semi-sweet chocolate, a little dry, and a little bitter. But quite hoppy for a porter! I prefer a traditional porter not these “American” porters. Too much hops.
And unrelated to beer, Tara got me the cutest belated Xmas present ever!
