Every year Teena and Dave throw the best summer solstice party. I mean this party rocks, they cook a whole pig in their backyard fire pit, have the best food imaginable, and they even hired a bartender this year!
Of course I took a little cooler with me!
I started the evening off strong with the Weyerbacher Quad, a favorite of mine.
After that I had the Dark Truth Stout, by Boulevard Brewing Co out of Kansas City, MO.
This is a really nice beer, hints of coffee and a bit of a smoky finish, great for a cookout!
Time for the pig!
One last beer by the fire, Victory Golden Monkey.
To chill on a hot Friday afternoon, I walked up to Rustico to meet Jack for happy hour!
To start I ordered the Bayerischer Bahnhof Berliner Weisse Rye, so refreshing and tart, it’s the perfect summer beer! I think this is my favorite German beer style.
Not pictured is the 4oz sample I also ordered, the De Dolle Boskeun, a Belgian Strong Pale Ale at 10%, it was really fantastic but I just couldn’t start of with something that strong.
Sticking with the lighter beers I next ordered the Chaos by Bierra Del Borgo of Italy. It’s a wild ale brewed with malvasia grape and champagne yeast.
Definitely my style of beer, lightly fruity, crisp and tangy.
It’s not only the beers keep me coming back to Rustico but it’s also their savory risotto tater tots!
This year Rachel came up with the best idea for Nick’s Birthday surprise party, deep sea fishing!
I had a couple of different beers throughout the day, but I started of with Evolution Craft Brewing Co’s Summer Session Ale.
I also had the Avery Ellies Brown Ale.
And the New Belgium Snapshot Wheat Beer.
And proof that I actually caught a fish!
After Jack and Rob taught Anna and me how to drive a stick, we went out for dinner and beers at Bluejacket Brewery in DC.
I’m not going to be able to recall all the beers I had, but they have twenty beers on draught, and I ended up sampling over half.
They were so good! I got two flights and the waitress brought be over more samples to taste!
I got mostly sour beers in the first flight, and mostly the strong Belgians and Quads in the second.
Later, we were passing by the Jefferson memorial and decided to stop in since we’ve never been!
