At home at the South Side Saloon

The next night, I feel like I got to see everybody! Including my favorite bartender, Joe! (don’t worry, this was a somewhat planned photobomb)

I started the night off with the Old #38 Stout by North Coast Brewing Company of Fort Bragg, CA at 5.6% abv.

Dark, dry, roasted malts. Semi-sweet chocolate, earthiness, light smoke.

And I got to hang out with my ladies, Tara and Cindy!

I was looking for something that I either hadn’t had before, or that it’d been a long time. With a little help from a bartender, I hunted down a new beer! The Ebulum Elderberry Black Ale by Williams Brothers Brewing Company of Alloa, Scotland.

Roasted malts, sweet dark fruits, plum, raisin and …elderberry? Subtle but not too sweet. Almost no hops and well hidden alcohol. Interesting and different, worth trying again.

To finish off the night I went with a tried and true, The Flag Porter by Darwin Brewery of Sunderland, England at a nice easy 5% abv. This is one of the reasons I really like this beer, it’s a nice sipper and doesn’t continue to get me wasted!

Say good bye to the long hair! The next day I got it chopped!
